Advent Tree – During the season of Advent, Westwood participates in the Advent Tree: A Ray of Hope---a ministry to homeless and low-income families in our community. Local agencies such as the Franconia Family Resource Center, FACETS (a Christian organization addressing homelessness), and local elementary schools have been served through the Advent Tree ministry during Christmas. It has brought a “Ray of Hope” to several hundred--both parents and children.
Adopt-A-People/Partners in Mission: Westwood has chosen the Persian Speakers Worldwide to partner with in global missions through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. You may learn more about their ministry at www.persianwo.org or email them at: pwo@worldmail.org.
Adopt-a-Highway – Volunteers clean up “our” section of Old Keene Mill Road (from Hunter Village Drive to Rolling Road) several times a year in order to be good stewards of our environment and good neighbors. We were officially recognized by VDOT for our long-time participation in this program recently.
Baptist World Alliance - Westwood is affiliated with BWA and, through them, support Baptist ministries around the world. We collect special offerings twice annually for missions.

On Wednesday evenings at CFN, children hear mission stories and participate in hands-on projects that reach out to persons in need in our church and in our community.

Summer Day Camp – For four summers, Westwood has provided a Day Camp and feeding program for children in low-income apartments. Persons of all ages at Westwood assist in this mission effort. The date for each year’s event is usually the second week in July and is a joint VBS/Day Camp program at the church. In addition, a new program is being planned for children and families of Hispanic background during the summer months.
Ecumenical Community Helping Others (ECHO) – Westwood participates with other churches in the Springfield/Burke area in a cooperative ministry by donating food and clothing as well as assisting with transportation. Seasonal Food baskets during Thanks-giving and Christmas are also provided by Westwood members and Sunday School classes to meet the needs of low-income families in our community. June is Westwood’s month for the ECHO Food Drive. This year we brought in over 111 bags of groceries to assist families in the community.
English Classes for Internationals – Westwood began an English as a Second Language (ESL) ministry over 10 years ago. Classes run from September to the end of May and classes are free of charge, except for a small fee for the books. In addition, we provide Sunday morning Bible classes for interested ESL students.
Habitat for Humanity – Westwood is a Covenant Church with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia. We have provided workers, board members and other support since 1993. Westwood donated over $25,000 twice to sponsor a house, once Arlington and once in Fairfax.
Keene Mill/Crestwood, & Maury Elementary School Partnerships- For the past six years, Westwood members have tutored Maury students on a weekly basis and have provided school supplies. Most recently, a partnership with Crestwood and Keene Mill Elementary Schools offers tutors for children with language, reading, math, and learning difficulties, and school supplies yearly.
Medical Assistance Program – This is a new program ministry that assists families who visit the Springfield Franconia Resource Center’s Clinic in need of medical assistance and needed medicines. The monies allotted for this ministry provide a “safety net” to help prevent children/parents from being turned away in their most vulnerable time of need because they lack funds to pay.
Men on Mission (M2) is open to the men of Westwood Baptist Church (members and friends) who are interested in exploring the Role of the Christian Man in today's culture. M2 activities focus on three areas: Spiritual Life Enrichment, Ministries, and Fellowship.
Mission Teams – Westwood has a long tradition of sending mission teams to less fortunate areas of the United States to work on projects to assist people living there. Most recently, teams were sent to the Gulf Coast to aid in Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. In addition, we assist people groups in places that are closed by sending financial and humanitarian aid, as well as letter writing and advocacy for those persecuted or imprisoned.
Operation Christmas Child – Sunday School classes and persons of all ages are involved in the Samaritan’s Purse’s project of filling over 100 shoe boxes full of toys and health items for children all over the world.
Westwood Food Pantry- Westwood provides emergency food to people who come to the church office asking for assistance and maintains a small food pantry of food donated by our members. The Food Pantry collects goods on the first Sunday (Communion Sunday) of every month. On each Communion Sunday, the Food Pantry tub will be in the narthex to the right as you enter the sanctuary. Persons may also bring in goods during the week. We welcome your donations anytime!
Women on Mission (WOM) – This dynamic group of women does many different activities to serve the community such as providing special mission speakers, layette kits for newborns of needy families at Fairfax Hospital, making sandwiches for the homeless in our community, and sending prayer packages with cookies to college students.
World mission support – We are affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and, through them, support missionaries across the world. Westwood collects special offerings twice annually for missions. We also directly support two members who live in Japan in their ministry amongst the Japanese.
